Secret Vintage Fair in awe of Caro Emerald Tribute!!
When I initially received the email from one of The Secret Vintage Fair organisers, I must say that I was rather intrigued by the event. I was told that this exciting fair would be in Colchester at a secret venue which would be filled with a multitude of vintage fair stall holders. I absolutely loved the idea of the secret venue which was finally revealed to be at the beautiful Colchester Town Hall on 30th November 2013.
Lucy and Janine, the organisers of The Secret Vintage Fair, are obviously lovers of all things vintage which also extended to the music of Caro Emerald. The vintage influence into the jazz/swing/mambo beats compliment any vintage themed event and the vintage style costuming finishes the look. My Caro Emerald Tribute Act incorporates the statement vintage style outfits that Caro has been seen wearing and I spend a lot of time (and money) to get the costumes custom made to be completely authentic! The sounds and the look were the perfect addition to the vintage fair.
I won’t pretend that this gig went without a hitch! I began my journey from my home in Halifax to my Premier Inn in Colchester, at around 4pm expecting and hoping an easy drive south. All was well until I got to the dark and long A14. Traffic ground to a halt and the flashing blue lights flew down the hard shoulder. My route planner advised me of a serious accident ahead and that I could be in for a long wait. I turned the engine off and an hour and a half later the traffic began to move. I arrived in Colchester at 12.30am absolutely exhausted, where the Premier Inn reception staff were kind enough to help me take my PA system to my room. I couldn’t wait to hit the pillow!!
I arrived at Colchester Town Hall the next morning to find a bustling array of Vintage Fair stallholders busily setting up their stalls full of history and beauty. The town hall itself was a perfect venue to host The Secret Vintage Fair with its high ceilings and elaborate coving. I set up my PA system ready to perform my Caro Emerald Tribute Act for the vintage fair going audience. My arrival to the stage was announced by the man himself!! Santa Claus!! Which I think has to be the best person in the world to be introduced by!
I performed 4 sets of Caro Emerald songs including hits like ‘That Man’, ‘A Night Like This’, and ‘Liquid Lunch’ along with some of Caros cover songs like ‘Bad Romance’ and ‘Mad About The Boy’. High up from the stage I could see vintage fair stall holders shimmying their shoulders and bopping their bodies along with the vintage jazz styled music and I also acquired quite a crowd of people. There was one gentlemen who took a very keen interest. He returned for each of my 4 sets and told me that he had seen Caro Emerald several times live and that I was just as good in every way and that I had really mastered my tribute act!! What a compliment!
There were many pictures taken throughout the day which you can see and during one of my breaks Lucy, Janine and I took some time to have some photo booth fun!!
The Secret Vintage Fair really was a fabulous day and I had an amazing time both performing and looking around the fabulous vintage fair stalls. The Caro Emerald Tribute Act really does suit a vintage themed event and now with my full live band a vintage wedding or event can truly be brought to life!!
“Our very own Caro Emerald! – Caitlen you were fantastic, you amassed quite a collective of fans throughout the day! Thank you sooo much for making the vast journey down to come and sing for us. It was just like having the real Caro with us! We look forward to coming to one of your other gigs sometime and in the meantime let us know when you get that album/DVD made!”
